Sabeel

In development for Android and iOS

Sabeel: The Awakening

A role-playing game for young players where the day you live is the game you play. Prayer is not a lecture between levels. It is the mechanic.

Sabeel is still in development. Nothing is for sale yet.

What it is

A world that keeps track of how you live in it

Sabeel is a 3D adventure set in a town you can walk through. There are people to meet, work to do, and a masjid at the centre of it. What makes it different is that the town notices. Turning up, keeping your word, and praying on time all move something the game calls your Heart, and your Heart changes what the world opens up to you.

The Heart

Never a score

Your Heart is shown as a word, not a number, so nobody is farming points. It reads Heavy, Unsettled, Steady, Clear, or Light, and it moves with what you actually do.

Real time

The day runs on its own

Prayer times arrive whether you are ready or not. Praying in congregation carries you further than praying alone, the way it does outside the game.

Together

Made to play with friends

Built for tablets and phones first, so it lands where children already play. The aim is a game they want to open, not one they are told to open.

How the Heart reads. Five states, and no number anywhere in the interface.

What your child is actually playing

Sabeel is built for roughly ages 11 to 14, the years when practice either becomes their own or becomes a chore. It teaches the shape of a Muslim day, the five prayers, congregation, honesty in small dealings, by making those things the way you get anywhere in the game, rather than a message delivered between levels.

The content is being reviewed by a qualified scholar for accuracy before release. The game is made by one family in South Florida, not a studio, and it is being built with children of its own audience's age reading it over the shoulder.
